Brimming with adolescent vitality and lyrical angst, SUBMARINE is a fresh and delightfully funny debut feature from writer-director Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) that captures the flavour of youth with eloquence and heartwarming sincerity.
Our hero is Oliver Tate (newcomer Roberts), a perpetually duffle-coated, socially awkward Swansea schoolboy with delusions of worldliness and a runaway imagination. When the prospective love of his life, Jordana Bevan (Paige, Ballet Shoes), reciprocates his coy advances, a fledgling romance bursts into bloom.
But it's not long before Oliver's compulsive nosiness throws a spanner in the works and his parents' ailing marriage starts to take precedent. Ayoade has raised the bar for British comedy in 2011 to endorphin-inducing heights.
