At last, 2013 looks to be Conquering's year, they are off on tour with fellow Glasweigians CHVRCHES in February, and their second album 'On Floating Bodies' is due for release on Scottish indie Chemikal Underground in March. Exciting times for this ace duo and worth celebrating with a third visit to York.
Comprising Anneke Kampman and James Scott, both residents of Glasgow, CAS’ brand of pop (and it is pop, make no mistake) is rendered through a kaleidoscope of clicks, tape hiss, synths and a myriad of micro-electronica to produce something that’s bewitching and entirely immersive. Anneke’s voice is the most flexible and affecting instrument of all though: harmonised and restless, her layered vocals wax, wane and shipshift in such gloriously inventive waves that for it all to form part of a debut seems almost rude.
We have two great support acts for your eyes and ears too. Voltage Black are another duo, producer Ewan Fisher and drummer extrodinaire James Milton will be no strangers to most York gig goers, but you'll not have heard them like this. With the excellent krautish, post punk of Neuschlaufen opening proceedings you get some real value for you fiver.
