The Basement is a 100-capacity events space situated below City Screen cinema in the heart of York. It is located on the main shopping street, Coney Street, ten minutes’ walk from York Railway Station and the city centre bus stops.
The venue hosts an eclectic mix of events, including live music, comedy, poetry, drama and DJ nights, seven nights a week. Musically, anything goes, from new and experienced international acts to local up-and-coming performers. We cater for all styles of music. The layout of The Basement makes the venue incredibly intimate. This, combined with impassioned staff motivated by music and the arts, gives the place a character all of its own.
