Synopsis

Desdemona (Maggie Smith) defies her father to marry the Moor of Venice, the mighty warrior, Othello (Laurence Olivier). But Othello's old lieutenant, Iago (Frank Finlay), despises him, and is determined to bring about the downfall of the Moor's new favourite, Cassio, and destroy Othello in the process by casting aspersions on his new bride. A spectacular and moving version of Shakespeare's play, featuring Olivier at the height of his powers.
