BATMAN BEGINS + THE DARK KNIGHT on 19 July

Egads! What sorcery is this?

What better way to spend the last teasing hours' wait for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (12A) than by watching the first two instalments in Christopher Nolan's trilogy? Get geared up for our return to Gotham with a double bill of BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT back to back!

BATMAN BEGINS:

The new start to the Batman franchise under the helm of Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO) was more in the tone of the early Batman: Year One-style comics.

As a young boy Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain, causing trauma and an obsession with revenge. After disappearing to the east where he sought counsel with the honourable Ninja cult leader known as Ra's Al-Ghul, Wayne (Bale) returns to a decaying Gotham City overrun by organised crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system.

The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armoured suit, leads him to take on a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong.

THE DARK KNIGHT:

The follow-up to BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT reunited director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who once again played the man behind the mask.

THE DARK KNIGHT takes Batman across the world in his quest to fight a growing criminal threat. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman has been making headway against local crime - until a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger, brilliant in his final complete performance) unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City.

To stop this devious new menace - Batman’s most personal and vicious enemy yet - he will have to use every high-tech weapon in his arsenal and confront everything he believes in head-on.
