Aja (THE HILLS HAVE EYES) serves up his part-remake of the 1978 cult monster classic with a healthy side of self-awareness and just a dash of knowingly camp acting.
The plot sees an underwater quake unleash schools of prehistoric flesh-eating piranha onto scores of unwitting teens, who've flocked to the otherwise peaceful getaway of Lake Victoria for spring break.
While numerous nods and winks to cast members with horror/sci-fi backgrounds will satisfy the fanboy crowd, B-movie gore and 3D SFX will quickly earn PIRANHA 3D a reputation as a popcorn- crunching cult classic.
