Writing Victorian London

Following our Not Strictly Dickens series, this new season looks at adaptations of Dickens' fellow writers of the 19th century, a golden age of popular fiction which continues to inspire filmmakers.

From Oscar Wilde's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST to the darker visions of Robert Louis Stevenson's DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE, this new instalment of London on Screen - presented by Birkbeck College's London Screen Study - is aimed at encouraging everyone to take an interest in the city's screen history. There will be introductions to the films, and discussions afterwards, as well as programme notes to help guide the audience through these exciting works. All the screenings are open to all, and free for UEL and Birkbeck students.
