Fela! Band The Fontanelles Live on 3 December!

We’ve just whipped Fela! musicians straight from the pits, in the form of one of the most well put-together, experienced Afro-beat bands in London at the moment. Playing especially for us at our Christmas special Juju.

The Fontanelles are a new band made up of established musicians from the world of Jazz, African and Reggae music. Collectively the band have played with the likes of Johnny Clarke, Keziah Jones, Chartwell Dutiro, Courtney Pine and Dele Sosimi, to name but a few.

The band met on the recent production of Fela! at the National Theatre where they were greeted with rave reviews from the press:

"a terrific 12-piece band who intensify the music's seductively repetitive rhythms" - The Independent

"the on-stage band works up a storm as they pound through Fela Kuti's hits to electrifying effect"  -  Metro

The Fontanelles are:

Robin Hopcraft: Trumpet
Idris Rahman: Saxophone
Tamar Osborn: Baritone Sax
Harry Brown: Trombone
Jon Gingel: Guitar
Laurence Corns: Guitar
Nick Ramm: Keyboards
Leon Brichard: Bass
Saleem Rahman: Drums
Hugh Wilkinson: Percussion
Satin Singh: Percussion

With DJs Volta 45 & Chief Commander Yaaba on the decks... naturally.

We’ve gone all out to give you the best present we can muster - plus a late licence, for extra time to throw your best shapes chale!
