Brooke Sharkey has spent most of her life in London and France.
She writes gypsy and blues inspired folk ballads in both languages, contrasting cotton wool folk melodies with strong and soulful vocals throughout her songs.
The Scottish fiddle melodies and atmospheric French horn creates a rich backing and worldly atmosphere to this, already, very dynamic music: both in volume and emotion.
Effortlessly followed by your hosts for the evening, Adam Beattie & The Consultants; a shifting group of musicians focused around band-leader and song writer Beattie, whose distinctive voice ties together their eclectic mix of 'folk stews and dirty blues'.
Their most recent album We'll Wave From The Shore is a collection of finely crafted yet charmingly ramshackle songs, which remain somehow contemporary whilst dealing in timeless ideas and traditional genres.
A delightful evening indeed.
