Synopsis

Patricio Guzmán (BATTLE FOR CHILE, SALVADOR ALLENDE, THE PINOCHET CASE), one of the legends of documentary, presents his visionary masterpiece for our times, set in Chile's Atacama Desert.

There, people search the past to understand the present: while women comb through the sands for remains of loved ones 'disappeared' during Pinochet's regime, astronomers peer into the cosmos to solve the riddle of the beginning of life.
