Whit Stillman's (THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO) first film in over a decade sees Greta Gerwig (HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS, GREENBERG) star as Violet Wister, an East Coast university student who takes great offence at her campus's grungy odour and outmoded patriarchal customs.
With a trio of fellow female students, Violet sets about re-educating her male peers, only to fall into the predictable trap of youthful apathy when her boyfriend betrays her.
Her girlfriends, too, it transpires, could do with learning a thing or two about the opposite sex. DAMSELS IN DISTRESS is a deadpan gem from an often-overlooked master of observational comedy. Not to be missed.
