Phoenix Oxford Centenary – Can You Help?

Our sister cinema in Oxford will be celebrating its centenary next year. We’re researching its history, which we hope to share in a book, a website and an exhibition.

We’re especially keen to collect memories from past and present customers and staff. If you’ve visited The Phoenix (formerly The Scala) then we’d love you to share your recollections with us, whether old or new. Even very small things are of more value to our project than you might think.

We’d also like to hear from anyone who has information about the long-gone Palace Cinema in Bell Street, Henley. In around 1927, one J. Bailiff appears to have been running both venues. We currently have no further details about Mr Bailiff, so we’re hoping someone can help us plug that gap.

Please get in touch with us at phoenix-memories@picturehouses.co.uk, or write to:

We look forward to hearing from you.
