Carancho (The Vulture)

Argentina 2012, 107 mins
Director: Pablo Trapero
Starring: Ricardo Darín, Martina Gusman

Argentine director Pablo Trapero's (LION'S DEN) latest feature is a moody and provocative drama about an ambulance-chasing personal injury lawyer with dubious ethics named Sosa (Darín, THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES), who falls in love with an idealistic provincial doctor named Luján (Martina Gusman, LION'S DEN).

They are brought together by tragedy: the car-crash victim she is trying to keep alive is the very man he is hoping to turn into his next client. Their hot-blooded fling feels doomed from the start, but Trapero isn't about to let it play out as expected. With allegorical undertones CARANCHO (meaning 'vulture') is part classic tragedy, part biting social commentary.
