Harbour Lights opened in February 1995 as a partnership between Southampton City Council and the British Film Institute.
Designed by architects Burrell Foley Fischer, its landmark design makes it an important development in the Ocean Village area of the City.
In early 1999 the cinema closed overnight. Through a new partnership with the City Council, City Screen reopened the cinema again in September 1999.
