In his first feature-length film, ace TV-animation director and writer Genndy Tartakovsky has created a spooky mountain-top resort, where along with a host of other mythical monsters, Dracula (Adam Sandler), his teenage-ish daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), Quasimodo (Jon Lovitz), the Mummy (Cee-Lo), Frankenstein (Kevin James) and his bride Eunice (Fran Drescher) can enjoy some respite from a world full of pesky humans beings.
But when the young and decidedly humanoid Jonathan (Andy Samberg) inadvertently intrudes on their deluxe netherworld on the occasion of Mavis’s 118th birthday – and promptly falls for her – much hilarious havoc ensues.
Although unashamedly aimed at a youthful audience, the film’s distinctive graphic style, impressive 3D execution and sharp script will appeal to fans of traditional horror movies, and indeed cutting-edge animation, whatever their age.
