This classic of the silent era stars the master of physical comedy Buster Keaton as a train engineer in during the American civil war. When Union spies steal his beloved locomotive “The General” with his sweetheart on board, he is forced to prove his bravery and pursue it single handedly and straight through enemy lines.
We are pleased to present this screening with live improvised accompaniment provided by Costas Fotopoulos, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. Costas has now been working for many years as an improvising silent film pianist at BFI Southbank and he has also accompanied silent films at the Barbican Centre, the Prince Charles Cinema, Riverside Studios, Chelsea Arts Club among other venues. As well as scoring many silents in the London Film Festival.
