Autism-Friendly Screenings at Hackney Picturehouse this Summer!

Autism-Friendly Screenings are especially for people on the autism spectrum and their families, friends and carers. Some people with autism are sensitive to sound and light, and they can find going to the cinema difficult.

During Autism-Friendly Screenings, low lights are left on in the auditorium and the volume of the soundtrack is reduced. It is fine for customers to move around, make a noise or take a break during the film.

THE PIRATES! IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS! 2D (U)

Sunday 22 July, 11.00am

Directors: Peter Lord, Jeff Newitt. Voices: Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton. UK 2012. 88 mins.

Aardman Animations (CHICKEN RUN, WALLACE AND GROMIT) invite you to set sail with the Pirate Captain (Grant) and his scurvy crew of characterful miscreants.

Based on British writer Gideon Defoe's immensely funny novel of the same name, THE PIRATES! IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS! is an action-packed adventure that will take you across the seven seas to the dank streets of Victorian London, where the pirates help a young Charles Darwin (Tennant) on his way to becoming an internationally renowned scientist. Wholesome family frolics from the masters of claymation.

JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND 2D (PG)

Monday 30 July, 11.00am

Director: Brad Peyton. Starring: Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine. USA 2012. 94 mins.

Intrepid young explorer Sean Anderson (Hutcherson) traces a mysterious distress signal to a remote island that isn't on any map, and encounters a vast array of mythological creatures as he embarks on a rescue mission in this follow-up to 2008's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.

Joined by his new stepfather (Johnson), along with an adventure-seeking helicopter pilot and the pilot's headstrong daughter, Sean navigates the crumbling stone corridors of Atlantis and comes face-to-face with bizarre life forms while on a mission to track down his missing grandfather (Caine).

And as seismic shockwaves threaten mass destruction, the group must race to escape the otherworldly paradise before the ocean swallows it up.
