Come and join us on Sunday 29 July at 3.00 and Thursday 2 August at 1.00, when we will be proud to present ROLL OUT THE BARREL: THE BRITISH PUB ON FILM (U).
Taken from the archives of the BFI, this is a collection of short films celebrating that great British institution, the public house, and what makes it unique and special.
These fascinating and insightful shorts were made between 1944 and 1979, beginning with a wartime documentary and finishing with an impressionistic look at a day in the life of a Tyneside pub.
The programme is both nostalgic and informative, harking back to a time when the pub was the centre of village and town life, and providing a great document of the cultural change in Britain from the perspective of the bar and lounge.
