Armistice Day Special Screening: PRIVATE PEACEFUL
This remembrance Sunday, we have a specially recorded interview with writer Michael Morpurgo before a one-off screening of PRIVATE PEACEFUL, based on his story of brotherhood and love set against the First World War.

Following Steven Spielberg’s hugely successful WAR HORSE comes another big-screen adaptation of a Michael Morpurgo novel, again set in the early 20th century. PRIVATE PEACEFUL chronicles the relationship between brothers Tommo and Charlie Peaceful from their rural childhood to the horrors of the First World War trenches. As the young adult Peacefuls, George MacKay and Jack O’Connell brilliantly convey the fears and hopes of army volunteers, their loyalties divided between family and country; Alexandra Roach (ANNA KARENINA) plays their equally conflicted shared love-interest, alongside Maxine Peake as their mother. The sterling cast also includes Richard Griffiths as the mean-spirited patrician who provides a precarious living for the Peacefuls, and Frances de la Tour as his conniving mistress. Building on DANCING AT LUGHNASA, Pat O’Connor’s pitch-perfect evocation of the era’s complex cultural strata affirms him as one of Ireland’s greatest directors.
