Adapted from iconic Japanese writer Haruki Murakami's 1987 international bestseller and imbued with the wistful atmosphere of The Beatles' song of the same name, NORWEGIAN WOOD is an elegy to the narrator's 1960s youth, telling of the raw intensity of first love and the painful severances on the journey to adulthood.
Against a backdrop of youth culture and student demonstrations, Toru (Matsuyama) arrives in Tokyo to start his first term at university. Haunted by the loss of his best friend Kizuki, who committed suicide when they were 17, Toru finds himself drawn to Kizuki's girlfriend, the fragile Naoko (Kikuchi, BABEL), who has also arrived in the city to make a new start. As the two grow close, their tender bond struggles to break free from the past, and is further complicated by the arrival the strong and sassy Midori (Mizuhara).
