Looper

Ever since BACK TO THE FUTURE we have waited for another top-notch time-travel movie, and this is it.

In the 2070s, anyone displeasing the Mafia - yes, they are still around and still nasty - is sent back to the 2040s, where an assassin known as a Looper is hired to dispose of them as their younger selves, with suitably minimal consequences. Joseph Simmons (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one such hitman, but when his next target turns out to be his older self (Bruce Willis, having a ball), who then escapes his murderous intent, he is soon fearing for his own life, and that makes two of them fleeing a very angry Mob.

BRICK and THE BROTHERS BLOOM proved Rian Johnson a writer/director of considerable wit and imagination, which with LOOPER he elevates, quite literally, to a whole new and very stylish world.
