HUMPDAY writer/director Lynn Shelton takes Mumblecore out of its cosy urban environs and into the great outdoors, to a picturesque archipelago a stone's throw from Seattle. It is here that our story unfolds, in a cabin nestled deep amongst the pines.
Iris's (Blunt) best friend Jack (Duplass) is not coping too well a year on from the death of his older brother - who was also Iris's partner - so she invites him to stay at her family cabin to clear his head. But Jack's excursion takes an unexpected turn when it transpires that Iris's sister Hannah (DeWitt) has chosen the same weekend to find solitude.
Over a tequila-fuelled evening the pair break the ice, but a moment of reckless spontaneity leads to more drama than either had bargained for, made worse when Iris turns up the next morning unannounced.
