Holofcener's (FRIENDS WITH MONEY) fourth directorial outing might not be much of a departure from her earlier female-centric dramas, but with its lasting intelligence and humour, PLEASE GIVE could see the Manhattan-born filmmaker finally transcend her cult fan-base.
The film centres on New York couple Kate (Holofcener regular Keener, SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK) and Alex (Platt, FROST/NIXON), who are at loggerheads over their relationship with the granddaughters of the elderly neighbour whose property they are hoping to acquire.
With Amanda Peet (MELINDA AND MELINDA) and Rebecca Hall (VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA) chipping in as the disparate granddaughters, PLEASE GIVE is an assured character piece from a filmmaker who’s come of age.
