The latest from emerging Chilean writer-director Cristián Jiménez (OPTICAL ILLUSIONS), BONSAI received its premiere in the Un Certain Regard competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. A film brimming with youthful exuberance and first-love charm, it tells the story of two literary college students, Julio (Noguera, TOURISTS) and Emilia (Galgani), who fall rapidly in and out of love.
Theirs is a condemned romance, but a silver lining emerges when Julio turns his experience with Emilia into a novel, 'Bonsái'. Jiménez showed much promise with his 2009 feature debut, but this is a much more complete, assured work.
