ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
A delicious black comedy about a marriage-shy newspaperman, Mortimer Bruster (Grant, BRINGING UP BABY), who finally ties the knot only to discover pre-honeymoon that his two quaint spinster aunts hide a murderous hobby: killing lonely old men and burying them in the cellar.
Massey and Lorre are great value as two wandering criminals but the ever-reliable Grant steals the show with a performance of deft comic timing.
Adapted from the acclaimed play by Joseph Kesselring and directed with brio by Frank Capra (IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE), ARSENIC AND OLD LACE is one of the evergreen comedies.
