
The Hollywood Cinema Bury St Edmunds opened in 1924 in Hatter Street and was called the 'Central'. In 1959 the 'Central' was re-modernised and became the Abbeygate Cinema.
Ten years later in 1970 the Star Group purchased the Cinema and created an Entertainment Complex including a Bingo Hall and a Studio 1 & 2 Cinema. From then the cinema was known as Canon / MGM / ABC & ODEON until Friday 18th November 2005 when it became The Hollywood Cinema. The Hollywood Cinema specialised in upmarket and family films at a value for money price.
The Hollywood Cinema in Bury St Edmunds was bought by Picturehouse Cinemas and became the Abbeygate Picturehouse on Friday 26th February 2010.
